Worcestershire Sauce Fun Facts: Sometimes shortened to Worcester sauce, is a fermented liquid condiment of complex mixture, of British origin from Worcester and popularized by Lea & Perrins, based on an older Greco-Roman sauce.

  • Worcestershire sauce is made from dissolved fish
  • Worcestershire sauce, the popular English sauce, is made from dissolved anchovies. The anchovies are soaked in vinegar until they have completely melted. The sauce contains the bones and all.
  • The sauce was supposedly created from a recipe handed down by a member of the English nobility known only as Lord Marcus Sandys, who apparently learned the recipe while serving as the governor of Bengal.
  • A high court on July 26th, 1876 decided that Lea & Perrins do not own the rights to the term “Worcestershire sauce”. As such, there have been many other sauces bearing that name since their creation.
