ROCHESTER, NY – Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is recalling approximately 1,125 pounds of marinated chicken products that were inadvertently produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The problem was discovered by FSIS inspection personnel during a review of establishment records. The inspector found that the establishment changed their production schedule, producing these products outside the approved hours of operation.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

“The only reason this product is being recalled is because it was produced without the benefit of USDA inspection, not because any issue or defect was found in the product,” says Jo Natale, vice president of media relations. Wegmans will place automated phone calls this morning to any customer who purchased the affected product.

The following products (and only these product) are subject to the recall:

  • Wegmans Italian Marinated Chicken Breast Cutlets, approximately 1 lb. pkg. UPC begins with 2-00866 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/24/2016.
  • Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet, approximately 1 lb. UPC begins with 2-00949 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/15/2016.
  • Wegmans Ready To Cook Garlic & Fennel Seasoned Whole Roasting Chicken, approximately 3 lbs. UPC begins with 2-03354 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/13/2016.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. or P-7567” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to distribution and retail locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Consumers who have purchased these products should return them to the store for a full refund.
