The Alma City Council might require permits for selling food from mobile carts.

Recently, local businesses have questioned city regulations for setting up mobile chuck wagons in the city, and questions were raised about a mobile food vendor opening an occasional food stand in a local parking lot.

Alma has a city ordinance that regulates door-to-door peddling, but it’s unclear if those rules apply to food carts.

The topic was referred to the city’s Tax & License Committee.

A similar issue came before the Winona City Council in 2006, when two men requested a permit to operate a late-night food cart in downtown Winona. The council denied the men a vendor license, citing concerns over litter and noise.
