BATTLE CREEK, MI – Battle Creek City Commissioners have gotten the ball rolling on a plan that would let food trucks set up shop downtown.

Tuesday night, the commission voted to allow vendors to start applying for food truck licenses on Wednesday.

However, where they can do business downtown is still up in the air.

The commission plans to talk more about that at its next meeting in July.

The proposed changes have been a hot-button issue in the cereal city.

Some businesses say the rules would allow unfair competition, but some residents and food truck operators say mobile dining could bring more options and help create a more lively scene in downtown Battle Creek.
