CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad City Council amended its municipal code to allow the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health to extend restaurant ratings to food trucks within the city at the Dec. 4 meeting.

“The grading system provides consumers with more information about the overall operating condition of mobile food vendors, similar to what you would see in a restaurant of an A, B, or C rating,” explained Michele Masterson, senior analyst with the city.

The city currently allows food trucks to operate in Carlsbad, as long as they have the appropriate permits from the county.

Separately, food carts, like the coffee cart in front of the Dove library, do obtain permits from the city.
