HARLINGEN, TX — Food truck mania is coming to town this month.

The Harlingen Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the Aug. 27 grand opening of the Harlingen Food Truck Park. This will be a first for the city.

Food trucks from around the area will con-verge on the Chamber parking lot, 311 E. Tyler Ave., for the grand opening of the truck park and begin offering their specialty foods in one, central location.

For the past 60 days Vanessa Camacho, man-ager of operations and business development with the Chamber, and her team have been working hard to make the idea of a food truck park a reality.

Camacho, who said this project is her “baby,” was approached by a food truck vendor with the idea.

“I thought, why not?” she said. “It could help smaller businesses.”

After seeing what McAllen had done with the food truck park idea, Camacho started to research the logistics. In McAllen, the idea for a six-month trial food truck court was considered a way to give the city a college-town feel, like Austin.
