ELYRIA, OH – The warm months may be over, but new food trucks flocking to downtown Elyria are providing a wealth of options for outdoor eating.

This week, two new food trucks — Thee Oasis Grill and The Brunch Box — joined the Krav food truck near Elyria City Hall, serving everything from breakfast sandwiches to falafels.

On Thursday, all three food trucks set up shop on Second Street, showing a growing interest in downtown Elyria for outside food vendors.

Craig Cassidy, owner and cook for Thee Oasis Grill, said he serves Middle Eastern-inspired food with a Midwestern touch. He said he plans to sell food from the truck Wednesday through Friday each week, weather permitting.

“There’s no real Middle Eastern food in the area. We’re trying to give a new experience,” Cassidy said of his menu that includes falafels, gyros and shawarma — a well-spiced chicken dish.

Cassidy organized the food truck after his daughter married a man from Abu Dhabi. Visiting her gives him recipe ideas.

Cassidy’s truck complements the other two food trucks, including Krav, which has been stationed by the courthouse since the beginning of the summer and features ethnic-inspired foods.

However, Cassidy wasn’t the only one to recently see an opportunity downtown. James Nutting has been running his breakfast and lunch truck, “The Brunch Box,” for two years, but came to downtown Elyria to sell food for the first time Thursday.

“It provides a safer choice if you’re not so daring. (The food) is a little more simplistic,” Nutting said of his truck that offers breakfast sandwiches, Philly cheese steaks, corn dogs and other traditional American food.

Like Cassidy, Nutting plans to return to downtown Elyria for the foreseeable future and believes his relatively inexpensive prices and food specials will draw more customers.
