IOWA CITY, IA – Kyle Sieck, owner of Local Burrito Catering, said he is excited by the prospect of an expanded food truck scene in Iowa City.

Sieck has owned and operated his food truck and catering service in Iowa City since 2009, and was among a handful of food truck and mobile vendors who participated in a pilot program at the Chauncey Swan Parking Ramp last summer during the Iowa City Farmers Market. The pilot prompted the city to consider amendments to regulations that would accommodate the growing industry. On March 23, the Iowa City Council unanimously approved its first consideration of an ordinance amendment that would allow vendors to operate in metered parking spaces around the city.

“The ordinance change is part of some of the work I’ve been doing with city staff over the past year,” Sieck said. “We brought it up, me and the vendor of The Box Lunch and some other citizens who want to see more options for food trucks, so we’ve had multiple meetings and ongoing conversations with the city.

“It’s just the right time. There are people interested in getting into the food truck scene and mobile vending scene and are looking for those options,” he said.
