If you missed it, The Great Food Truck Race season 6 episode 3 aired Sunday night. Here’s the recap.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

The show starts with the contestants in Santa Fe, NM.

The Great Food Truck Race season 5 remaining teams are:

  • GD Bro Truck(Orange County, CA)
  • Pho Nomenal Dumplings(Raleigh, NC)
  • Postcards(Los Angeles,CA)
  • Spice it Up(Phoenix, AZ)
  • Waffle Love(Provo, Utah)

Chef Florence kicks the episode off with another quick fire test. The teams are to develop a dish that includes a variety of chilies that are common in New Mexico. The team with the best dish (as determined by guest judge, Martin J. Rios) would be declared the winner and would be awarded a $1,000 bonus to their till on top of the $150 in seed money Tyler provided.

This week, the team from Postcards created a spicy chili soup with a jalapeno cornbread on the side that not only wowed Chef Rios, but had Tyler digging into the dish for seconds.

After the quick fire challenge the teams headed into Santa Fe to get selling.

THE GREAT FOOD TRUCK RACE SPEED BUMP:

Chef Florence called the teams and announced that the speed bump challenge was going to test their ability to look into the future. The teams were only going to be allowed only one opportunity to shop for the weekend. The trucks were going to need to make sure they spent only enough on food to make sure they weren’t forced to close early or end up with a bunch of leftover food that didn’t get sold.

Most of the trucks struggled in this area some ended up with extra food that was not sold while others had to close up shop before the end of the weekend missing out on extra sales.

The big news once again came from the quick fire challenge winners. This week after Postcards had won a $1000 advantage, they ran into a big problem, literally. While parking, the team hit a car in front of them, leaving minimal damage. The accident wasn’t the big issue though. Because there was nobody around, the team left without calling the police or even leaving a note to the car owner.

This error ended up hurting them in the end.

The following day, the teams lined up to get the results from Tyler Florence as he announced their totals. When he got to Postcards, he informed them that they would be docked $250 for the accident itself, but an additional $250 because they left the scene of the incident without leaving a note. As you can tell by the totals, this loss prevented them from pulling off their first episode win.

  • Waffle Love $5,017
  • Postcards $4,688
  • Pho Nomenal Dumplings $4,658

Pho Nomenal Dumplings was able to stay out of the bottom this week leaving the week’s elimination down to the GD Bro Truck and Spice It Up. The difference in sales was $80.  Unfortunately, their difficulties in pricing and foresight led to Spice It Up being eliminated.

Next week’s stop? Amarillo, TX
