MONROE, LA – The much-debated mobile food vendor ordinance is back on the Monroe City Council’s agenda Tuesday night, but most of the controversial language has been stripped from its earlier version.

The ordinance was designed to allow for and regulate mobile food vendors within the city of Monroe.

Council Vice Chairman Ray Armstrong, District 1, authored the ordinance but pulled it before the final adoption vote a month ago over concerns from vendors and restaurateurs.

Mobile vendors worried about a lack of a level playing field because of restrictions to advertising and proximity to brick-and-mortar restaurants. Both restrictions have been removed from the new version of the ordinance.

MONROE, LA – The Monroe City Council has voted to introduce an ordinance that would allow for and regulate mobile food vendors in the city.

The ordinance would allow vehicles properly permitted with the city to set up shop throughout the city to sell food, but that ability comes with several restrictions.

A vendor must be at least 20 feet from intersections, traffic signals and stop signs and at least three feet away from handicap ramps. Vendors cannot set up tables, chairs or other fixtures, except for trash cans.

Vendors are not allowed to operate within 150 feet of a land-based restaurant without written permission.

The ordinance was introduced Tuesday Council Vice Chairman Ray Armstrong and it passed on a 4-1 vote.

Food truck trend rolling into Augusta – AUGUSTA, GA – As the food-truck movement rolls steadily into Augusta, Edward Mendoza is jumping aboard. Havird Usry is, too.

For Mendoza, the venture started late last year as a substitute second location for his Kitchen 1454 on Walton Way. Usry, on the other hand, looked to the food-truck concept to expand his catering business at Fat Man’s Mill Cafe & Catering in Enterprise Mill.

Walnut Creek about to become food truck mecca – WALNUT CREEK, CA – Food trucks bearing gourmet goodies are just around The Bend.

A food truck market dubbed “The Bend” is on track to set up shop on Main Street, at the site of former French restaurant Le Virage, in March. The family behind Le Virage — French for “the turn” — are the owners and operators of The Bend, which will offer eight rotating food trucks six days a week for lunch and dinner.

Some Delray restaurateurs say festivals bring in too many food vendors – DELRAY, FL – Even though droves of people visited downtown Delray Beach to grab a bite to eat this holiday season, some downtown eatery owners said they weren’t dining in their establishments.

And at a recent City Commission meeting, the restaurateurs placed the blame on the overwhelming convergence of food trucks and street vendors the city brings in to fill Atlantic Avenue during festivals and special events.

Councilman hopes to bring food trucks to Monroe – MONROE, LA – So many of us simply don’t have time to drive to a restaurant for lunch and sit down to wait on our order, but what if the restaurant was brought to you?

You may have missed it, but the mobile food industry is growing faster than anyone would have guessed two years ago. It can be difficult to keep up with the new trucks and carts as they pop up throughout the country. Because of this, Mobile Cuisine Magazine assists our readers weekly by posting the names and information about these trucks, so if they happen to be in your area, you can begin to follow them, or at least keep any eye out for them on the roads and cart pods.
