Zagat released their list of the 5 Must Eat Burgers from Food Trucks in LA to mark the end of Burger Week. The list includes five food truck burgers they think are worth seeking out.

And the nominees are (in no particular order):

Grill ‘Em All

The Dee Snider is one of the more popular, a beef patty with peanut butter, bacon and sriracha.

Baby’s Badass Burgers

There are many to choose from – the spicy Mamacita with jalapenos, the black truffle-topped Cougar – but the She’s Smokin’ suits us fine with its bacon, smoked cheddar and bbq sauce.

Rounds Premium Burger Truck

The Classic is a California classic, a beef patty topped with onions, pickles, tomato, lettuce and Thousand Island dressing.

Kogi

The short rib sliders might not be exactly a “burger,” but it’s close enough for us – the meat is topped with sesame mayo, cheese, salsa roja and a cabbage-romaine slaw tossed in chili-soy vinaigrette, all served on toasted buns.

Flatiron Truck

The dry-aged beef burger with caramelized onions, cheddar and aioli is one of the better versions you’d find from four wheels.

So what are your thoughts? Did they nail it on their choices? Who would you have added or left of Zagat’s list? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Zagat, the extensive and highly regarded restaurant rating guide book, released the results of its 2012 New York City Restaurants Survey Wednesday.

This edition is the first New York guide since Zagat Survey was acquired by Google last month. Tim Zagat, who founded the company with his wife, Nina, said readers won’t notice the difference. “The survey was largely completed before the deal closed,” Mr. Zagat said.

The Zagats started their survey in New York 32 years ago and have since expanded to more than 100 cities, and started to included food trucks last year.

According to Tim Zagat “We used to call them roach-coaches in the old days. The few food trucks that existed were kind of sloppy. A lot of these are run by very, very good restaurateurs and the quality and the cleanliness of these food trucks is much, much better than anything that we’d ever known, even imagined, five years ago.”

The Top 5 NYC Food Trucks

5. Korilla Food Truck – The Korean Barbecue Truck launched by a young Columbia graduate and winner of the Vendy Award for Rookie of the Year.

4. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck – Consistently ranked as one of the city’s best ice cream vendors.

3. Wafels & Dinges – the truck serving up authentic Belgian waffles.

2. Taim Mobile – A popular falafel and smoothie truck born of the West Village institution.

1. Nauti – City seafood sensation Luke’s Lobster recently rolled out Nauti and the lobster-roll serving truck took top honors.

Zagat said there were 135 notable brick and mortar restaurant openings and just 68 closings in the past year. These numbers help to show that the growth of the mobile food industry is not preventing restaurants from opening their doors and are not causing mass closings due to the claims of the industry holding an unfair competitive advantage of the brick and mortar establishments.

As we mentioned last month, influential foodie guide Zagat added food trucks to its list of eateries it reviewed. Earlier this week, the creators of this guide made finding food trucks easier with the launch of Zagat Food Trucks, a free website designed to help hungry New Yorkers locate their favorite mobile cuisine.

The map, now in its beta testing phase, was created by creative interactive agency JESS3, allows users to search for food trucks by location, by cuisine and by Zagat food rating. Once a user has chosen a food truck, the site will indicate its location, social media links (Facebook, Foursquare and Twitter), as well as its Zagat ratings and reviews. Currently, Zagat’s top-rated food trucks are limited to trucks in the Manhattan area.

Trucks will also be able to make their wandering whereabouts known by tweeting their locations to @ZagatTrucks, which automatically updates the app. While there’s no mobile app version of this service, users can follow the action on their mobile browsers.
