The results from our Cajun Food Truck contest for 2019 are in. After collecting nearly 1,000 votes, congratulations goes out to the Ragin Cajun On Wheels food truck out of Los Angeles, CA, our now repeating champ for winning our 2019 Cajun Food Truck of the Year!

Ragin Cajun On Wheels – Los Angeles, CA

Stephen Domingue, moved to California in 1988.  Before long, he was missing the culture of Lafayette, especially the incredible food that he had become so accustomed to.  It wasn’t long before he realized that he had an opportunity to bring Cajun food, that is real authentic Cajun food, to California.  He would go on to open up the very first and pioneering Ragin’ Cajun restaurant in Hermosa Beach, California on April 1, 1992.  He eventually engaged the help of his mother, and his sister, to help run the increasingly popular restaurant.

This unique and successful restaurant would carry-on for the next 18 years.  During the final year of his lease in Hermosa Beach, Stephen was presented with an opportunity to pioneer the Cajun food concept yet again.  He managed to win a coveted slot in the first reality cable show of its kind, The Great Food Truck Race on The Food Network Channel.  Stephen didn’t win the race, but his wild personality gained him a huge following for what he was doing with his truck.

When the time came for Stephen to move out of the restaurant, he decided to build on the popularity of the food truck.  In a matter of months, he would go on to win six consecutive food truck competitions, which reaffirmed his feeling that he was onto something.

The Story Continues…

In 2018, after over twenty years in the industry, Stephen decided it was time to go back home to Lafayette. He closed the doors of his restaurant in Hermosa Beach and handed off the care of his beloved food truck to Louisiana native, Chef Austin Harrell and his wife Caryn while remaining highly involved from Louisiana.

Chef Austin worked as an Executive Chef in Baton Rouge Louisiana. He moved to California in 2010 to bring us his southern flair for flavor as Executive Chef at several renowned Restaurants throughout Southern California. He has worked with Celebrity Chefs who helped develop his technique and expand his palate. If you haven’t been to the truck lately, be sure to stop by and see what he is cooking up. Chef Austin is on the truck daily so be sure to stop by and say hey y’all!

Congratulations to the Ragin Cajun On Wheels Food Truck team and their enthusiastic voters/diners!
