Annoying Customers can be Your Best Customers...

Straight up, that "annoying" customer who shows up right after you’ve closed could be one of your best customers. If they’re willing to deal with your tired, end-of-day attitude just to get your food, that’s a big win. If you can, serve them and thank them for coming out.

They just covered your generator gas for the whole shift. And if you really can’t serve them, at least thank them for being loyal. Those are the customers that keep your business going.

How do you handle customers that show up right after close?

So I’m a kettle corn guy so my situation might be a little different from some of you food truck folks. I had just finished a long shift and had 2 extra bags left over that I was planning to keep for myself. You know the usual end-of-day reward after hustling all day. Right as I’m packing up this person comes up asking if I have anything left. I was ready to close but they were desperate because they were hosting a birthday party and needed some extra snacks.

They offered to pay full price for both bags and I thought why not. I pocketed an extra $15 at the end of the day plus they threw in a $5 tip. No extra work no hassle it didn’t even take any extra time. I just needed to be kind and say yes. It’s crazy how just being flexible and nice can lead to a little more cash in your pocket at the end of a shift. Something to think about next time you’re ready to shut down and someone shows up.
