Perhaps it only makes sense that a pizza place on wheels would have more adventurous offerings than most of its stationary competitors, but where else other than Milwaukee can you find a slice of pizza with a full crab leg on it, or a Nutella-smothered s’mores pizza for dessert?

Since 2008, Street-za Pizza has been serving slices both exotic and familiar at just about every outdoor festival, concert or block party worth attending, as well as delighting late-night bar-hoppers all over the city. Co-owners Scott Baitinger and Steve Mai found out that it’s not so easy to be able to make pizza in a hot oven in a truck, but trial and error finally prevailed and Street-za hit the streets.

Street-za features fresh pizza straight out their truck’s oven, including fresh ingredients and organic toppings. Aside from their signature slices, Street-za sells special slices every day, which incorporate both personal recipes and those of their followers via social media.

There are many Street-za neighborhood slices, but their specialty pizzas come in all types of intriguing flavors. A crowd favorite is their Crab Legs slice. It begins with a basil and thyme cream sauce, fresh crab meat, fresh corn, leeks, and mozzarella. To finalize the pizza, it is topped it off with an entire crab leg.

All Street-za slices begin with a crust that can be best described as being thicker than New York style pizzas and thinner than those crafted as Chicago deep dish pizzas.

Don’t be worried if you happen have a sweet tooth, Street-za also has delved into dessert for their customers. Their S’mores Pizza uses their signature crust with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over it and then topped with Nutella, marshmallows, semi-sweet chocolate, crushed graham crackers and drizzled with hot fudge.

Nominated to be on the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race” back in 2011 and featured in TIME Magazine, People Magazine, GQ Magazine and for the third year in a row, Street-za Pizza has been named the Best Street Food/Food Truck in Milwaukee by OnMilwaukee.com readers. Baitinger and Mai have made a name for themselves as one of the best run and popular food trucks in the United States.

The Streetza Pizza food truck can be found in Milwaukee and its surrounding neighborhoods throughout the week.

Price range: $3.75 per slice

Our recommendation:

“A Slice of Milwaukee” features tomato sauce, sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, roasted garlic, onion, mozzarella, provolone and parmesan.

What their fans have said:

The slice was much bigger than I expected, and for just $3 I got 3 slices of garlic bread.
The pizza was Very Good. Crust was a nice hand tossed thickness (not too thin and not too thick).  Just enough to hold all of the toppings, but not too much that you get a mouthful of crust.  – Heather C. – Milwaukee, WI
