HENDERSON, KY – For Henderson city foodies, their eatery options may be going mobile.
At their meeting Tuesday night, city commissioners approved first reading of an ordinance allowing food trucks to operate on certain parts of city property.
The ordinance permits food trucks at the Henderson Depot Welcome Center, East End Park and Atkinson Park. According to the ordinance, food trucks can be at the Depot from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day but Tuesday and at East End Park and Atkinson Park every day from 11 a.m. to dusk.
“I think this is a very good place to start,” said Commissioner Jan Hite. “But I would like to see us expand on this in the near future. I think once we see how popular this is going to be, we might want to open some additional areas and times. I really hope it gains a lot of traction very quickly.”
Annual permits for food trucks will cost $50, while each additional unit is $25. All mobile food vendors must also have a $300,000 combined single limit insurance policy on their vehicle and list the city of Henderson on their policy.
