HOUSTON, TX – Tragedy struck a northwest Houston gas station on Saturday when an apparent robbery attempt at a popular food truck went horribly wrong.
Employees at the Shell station — located at the corner of Fairbanks North Houston Road and Breem Drive — tell CultureMap that Lorenzo Juan Vasqez and his wife had operated their mobile taqueria in the parking lot for nearly a year.
With the busy weekend lunch hour behind them, the couple were enjoying a brief lull in activity around 3:30 p.m. when a pair of men arrived. Fully armed, the suspects demanded cash and other valuables.
Homicide detectives with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office report that ?53-year-old Vasqez was shot during the robbery attempt while his wife escaped unscathed. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The two assailants quickly fled after the shooting and remain at large. Officials have not confirmed if items or cash were stolen.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. Anonymity is guaranteed for all tipsters.
