GREENVILLE, NC – Students around the Christenbury Gym area of campus were treated to free samples of coffee Wednesday afternoon, courtesy of East Carolina University’s new Starbucks Mobile Truck.

The event was designed to spread awareness to students about ECU’s newest dining fixture.

The almost ten-ton truck is a fully functioning coffee shop offering the full Starbucks menu and will be a permanent fixture on campus starting next Monday.

Stephanie Sumner, district marketing manager for Aramark, said the truck will be a crucial new addition to the student experience. Due to logistical reasons, such as power and water supply, the truck cannot operate completely mobile, and requires more permanent locations.

As of now, the truck’s primary location will be behind the Christenbury Gym and Brewster, though Sumner said they are considering other possibilities to utilize the truck, such as alternate locations on campus and use for special events.

The truck will operate Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a two hour inactive period between 11:00 and 1:00. While at the Christenbury location, students will be able to purchase food and beverages from the truck using their purple and gold bucks, or with traditional cash or card.
