LONGVIEW, TX – The Longview City Council on Thursday named 11 people, primarily business owners, to the Mobile Food Vending Task Force. The goal is to have everything wrapped up by January, said District 1 Councilman Ed Moore, who is serving on the task force as the council liaison.

“So we’re going to shoot for that,” Moore said.

Director of Community Services Laura Hill said in recent months city staffers have reviewed information from other cities in East Texas, as well as larger metropolitan areas across the state. The goal, she said, is to understand how other cities manage food trucks — and find out what would work best for Longview.

“It goes without saying that any ordinance (allowing food trucks) would abide by city, state and federal codes related to food service,” she said. “So the real question (for the committee) is deciding how Longview should approach this in matters of preference.”

The committee members include restaurant owners David Choy, Cathy Cace, Eric Dean, Gerald Rodriguez, Kevin Hawkins, Chuck King and Mike Kittner. Also on the committee, in addition to Moore, are businessmen Brian Hatchett, Hank Guichelaar and Doug Shook.

“I think we have an excellent cross-section of the community to start this process,” Moore said.
