ALPENA, MI – The food truck fad has grown around the nation, and at today’s Planning Commission meeting they addressed regulations for food trucks in Alpena.

Currently, there are no set rules for how food trucks can operate in the area. The commission will have to analyze where the trucks could and could not operate.

Around the nation many cities have adopted ordinances that require food trucks to be a certain distance away from operating restaurants.

If the Council develops a similar policy to other towns it could be difficult for food trucks to sell in Downtown Alpena.

Restaurants are currently in close proximity to areas of parking where food trucks would most likely go. This could also pose a challenge to trucks attempting to sell in areas with the most foot traffic.

There is a lot to take into consideration, but the commission does intend to make Alpena a food truck friendly city.
