You didn’t read that incorrectly, the title of this article says Free Gas. If you are a food truck owner that is looking to cut some of your overhead, we thought we’d put together a short list of ways you can do it at the gas pump.

5 Ways To Get Free Gas For Your Food Truck

Become a moving billboard

Every food truck owner knows the importance of a clear brand message on their truck’s wrap, but did you know that if you add a small ad on your food truck or personally owned vehicles you can get free gas in exchange for the advertisements? Sites like freegashelp.com will pay between $5 and $200 in gas cards every month if you allow your vehicle to be used as a traveling billboard. You can start out with just a small decal. So how do you qualify? You must drive at least 1,000 miles a month (this may be tough for your food truck to qualify), own a late-model vehicle in good repair, have a valid license and carry up-to-date auto insurance.

Stay at a hotel that offers free gas rewards

Lots of hotels offer free gas cards when you book a stay. Book a hotel with a chain that offers gas cards as a reward for frequent bookings, such as Choice Hotels. Some hotel booking services, like Hotels.com and Expedia.com, have also offered gas cards as a reward for booking through them.

If the hotel you’re planning to stay at doesn’t have an advertised gas card or free gas offer, make sure to ask them. Sometimes the gas-card package costs a little more than the standard room package, but you might still save money once you factor in the money you save on gasoline.

Shop for groceries for fuel rewards

Programs such as FuelPerks are rewards program that lets shoppers save at the pump after you become a member at a participating grocer. Right now many major supermarket chains offer these types of discounts. Now the price at your local grocery might a be a bit expensive to use for your food truck food purchasing, that doesn’t mean you can’t use them for your household grocery purchases

Open a new bank account

Some banks and credit unions offer free gas cards when you open a new checking or savings account. Keep an eye out for these kinds of offers and try signing up for a new savings account to keep all the money you’re saving at the pump.

Please Note: Be sure to research all of the terms and conditions of opening an account with that bank before you march in and ask for your gas card. In some cases, you may be required to maintain a minimum balance, or you may be charged a maintenance fee for keeping the account open.

Take surveys

In exchange for signing up and taking surveys about various topics, many market research companies will allow you to cash in your survey points for gas cards. You can usually redeem survey reward points for gift cards at the merchant of your choice (including gas stations), or fillable gas cards that will come with a pre-determined amount of cash. This technique may be the least attractive to busy food truck owners but it is still a way to get free gas for your food truck.
