The internet is full of fabulous facts about everything from current events to the history basket weaving and nutella fun facts. As we research for our daily content on food trucks, food carts and street food, we stumble upon some items of knowledge that we just did not know.

We have decided when these fun facts pop up, that we would share them with our readers in our section titled “Did You Know?”

For today’s Did You Know we will look at Nutella fun facts.

Nutella Fun Facts: Nutella is a chocolate spread produced by the Italian company, Ferrero. It was first introduced in April 1964, Nutella is now sold in more than 75 countries.

  • The original Nutella started off as a block, rather than as a creamy paste.
  • February 5th is World Nutella Day.
  • In 1954 the hazelnut paste’s name was changed from “supercreama gianduja” to Nutella. This was due to an Italian law which prohibited the use of superlatives in product names.
  • The amount of Nutella produced worldwide in one day is equivalent to nearly three times the weight of the Statue of Liberty.
  • More than 70 million hazelnuts are used worldwide each day in the production of Nutella.
  • In each 13 oz. jar, there are more than 50 hazelnuts.
  •  The number of jars sold annually, if lined up, would wrap around the moon four times.
  • The recipe for Nutella varies from country to country. In Italy, Nutella contains less sugar than the French version.
