PEORIA, IL – The city of Peoria is ready to welcome food trucks to its downtown and other areas.

The Peoria Journal-Star reported the City Council voted this week to create a process for food-truck operators to apply for licenses.

Assistant City Manager Chris Setti says about six operators have expressed an interest. He says once applications are received it will likely be about 2 weeks for them to be reviewed and approved.

The council’s plan allows up to three trucks to operate on Hamilton Boulevard, adjacent to the Peoria County Courthouse.

An unlimited number of trucks will be allowed in other parts of the city, though they are banned from residential areas. There also will be limits on their proximity to existing restaurants, schools and intersections.
