LAPEER, MI – Alex Puckett and his wife, Meghan, have big plans — and they involve food trucks and eventually maybe a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Lapeer. Seven months ago the newlyweds started their own business — YaEatYet? They’ve taken it on the road to places like the Armada Fair and the Peach Festival in Romeo as well as other regional occasions.

The Lapeer residents want to establish themselves closer to home as well, and will be before the Lapeer Planning Commission on Thursday (Nov. 9) at 6:30 p.m. at Lapeer City Hall for a public hearing on their request for a special land use permit in order to operate their food trailer on the premises of two local businesses.

Puckett, 35, wants permission from the City to operate his double-axle food trailer at Lapeer Wine & Spirits at Main and Summit streets, as well as during special events at Ray C’s Harley- Davidson on M-24 south of I-69.

“I was set up there (Lapeer Wine & Spirits) earlier, but got a letter from the City saying I needed a special land use to operate my trailer,” said Puckett, who earned a degree in hotel and restaurant management from Eastern Michigan State University. He has managed Taco Bell and Bob Evans restaurants, among other ventures before he and his wife decided to take their love of food on the road, literally.
