oak-parks-great-food-truck-rallyOAK PARK, IL – Gourmet food trucks from around the Chicago area will bring their diverse sweets and international savory flavors to Oak Park’s Great Food Truck Rally on Saturday, May 11. The event will take place from Noon to 6:00 PM in the parking lot of Pilgrim Congregational Church at 460 Lake Street in Oak Park.

Mobile food trucks are one of the hottest and fastest-growing trends in the food industry. Food trucks have become a familiar sight around Chicago, but as of yet they are not licensed to operate in Oak Park. For this special event, however, the Village is issuing one-day permits so that the food trucks can introduce their fare to the Oak Park community.

“Pilgrim Church is excited to bring these fabulous food trucks to Oak Park,” said Senior Pastor Sally Iberg. Ten different vendors will serve up a wide range of cuisines, from Jerk’s Jamaican jerk chicken to tamales from Tamale Spaceship, sliders from the Slide Ride, grilled cheese from Toasty Cheese – Mobile Eatery, and Indian curried chicken from Get Curried Away. Beyond Borders will offer farm-fresh vegetarian wraps, and dessert options will be served by Cupcakes for Courage, Chicago Cupcakes, and Ice Cubed. Mojo Express will provide the coffee.

“Of course, Pilgrim can’t resist offering our famous donuts as one of the sweets for the day,” added Pastor Iberg.  This sneak preview will give diners the chance to sample the first-of-the-season Pilgrim donuts one week before the Oak Park Farmers Market kicks off its 2013 season in the same venue.

Pilgrim will also open its doors to host guided tours of its historic church building. Designed by the architectural firm of Patton and Fisher, Pilgrim’s Queen Anne Revival Style building dates from 1889 and reached its final form in 1900. The building is the oldest structure continuously used for worship in Oak Park and is on the Register of Historic Places.

The Great Food Truck Rally is a one-day-only event and will take place rain or shine. Parking will be available in the parking garage at Oak Park River Forest High School just west of the church.
