DES MOINES, IA – Food trucks previously confined to selling around the Pappajohn Sculpture Park may soon move deeper into downtown.

The Des Moines City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance change Monday night that would permit food trucks along Grand Avenue, Locust Avenue and Walnut Street to expand from 16th Street to Fourth Street. These trucks were previously confined between 13th and 16th Streets.

“This is a huge deal for the food trucks and the employees in the downtown sector,” said Nick Kuhn, president of Legion of Food in a statement to The Des Moines Register. “It will forever change the face of downtown in a positive way.”

The second reading of the ordinance will be held at the next council meeting on Oct. 24.
