Not to be outdone by the food-cart scene in Portland and Los Angeles, the first ever on-mountain, snowcat-food truck in North America will begin prowling the slopes at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area on Saturday, offering hot burritos, churros and calzones to hungry skiers and boarders.

Named Roving Mammoth, these refurbished “foodcats” (retired Piston Bully Edge snowcats with a small kitchen on the back) will operate on the slopes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday through Monday. The first Roving Mammoth, playfully named Igor, will offer hot beef, chicken and vegetarian burritos and homemade churros, along with cold, nonalcoholic drinks. The second cat will carry hot calzones.
