PENDLETON, OR – A Pendleton High School teacher was awarded a $100,000 grant from Farmers Insurance Tuesday for her efforts to begin a new cooking, marketing and business program for students.

A news release from Farmers Insurance said Kristin Swaggart of Pendleton High School was one of six winners out of 15 finalists that created plans to help improve their educational methods.

Swaggart proposed a plan to help give students experience with cooking, marketing and running a small business by integrating a food truck into her school’s culinary program according to the release.

The money comes out of a Thank America’s Teacher’s Program from Farmers Insurance where the company is giving away $1 million to educators across the nation in the form of grants.

The largest of the grants Farmers Insurance awards is the $100,000 Dream Big Teacher Challenge grants, that Swaggart won.
