SIOUX FALLS, SD – Food trucks and other mobile food vendors are in the clear to operate in Sioux Falls.

The City Council on Tuesday night signed off on new food truck rules that allow businesses in the trending industry to stay open until midnight during the week and 2 a.m. on weekends. Until now, mobile food vendors have been classified as peddlers, which aren’t allowed to operate past 8 p.m.

The ordinance, approved unanimously by the council, establishes a mobile food vendor license and application process. Food trucks will pay a $75 annual fee instead of the $35 required fee when obtaining peddlers’ licenses.

Mobile vendors will also be required to provide trash containers for garbage and recyclables, accommodate customers with disabilities and undergo background checks. They’ll also be limited in where they can operate.
