There is a long way to go but Mitchell Stenger, attorney for the Western New York Food Truck Association tells Eyewitness News that substantial progress has been made in the first meeting between food truck owners and restaurant owners. That meeting was held at city hall Wednesday afternoon.
Food truck owners as well as representatives of restaurants were present along with their attorneys.
The store front restaurants support a proposal that restricts the trucks to pre-designated areas or “pods.”
However, the food truck owners argue that “pods” go against their business model of being mobile.
The mobile restaurants came up with a plan that would allow them to operate at least 100 feet away from store front restaurants.
Other issues are an annual licensing fee of $325 for the trucks as well as other health and safety regulations.
The committee plans to meet again early next week.
