SPRINGFIELD, MA — As officers investigated a shooting report in the city’s North End on Wednesday evening, another violent episode played out about a block away near Medina’s Supermarket, where a food truck driver was pistol-whipped by another man, according to authorities.

“The suspect is in custody,” Springfield Police Lt. Brian Keenan said, adding that officers recovered the gun used in the assault. “He threw the gun to the ground,” Keenan said of the suspect, whose name was not immediately available.
