NEW YORK, NY – The Street Vendor Project has recently announced that they are planning a huge expansion of their mobile food awards (The Vendy Awards) which started in New York City in 2005.
In 2012 The Vendy Awards took place in NTC, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. This year and additional 3 cities around the country will be able to enjoy this great event. Added to this year’s schedule are New Orleans, Boston and Chicago.
“The Street Vendor Project is thrilled to recognize the men and women who serve some of the best street food in the country. The Vendys started as a small fundraiser, raising money to support hard-working street vendors who are working toward their American Dream – now, we are thrilled to take our dream to the national stage and celebrate six cities-worth of talented sidewalk chefs.”

If you are not familiar with The Vendy Awards, here is the basic idea:
THE VENDYS ARE:
- the premier street food showcase and an intense cook-off between the best sidewalk chefs that has become one of the city’s most beloved and widely anticipated food events!
- A festival of respect and gratitude for all vendors and everything they provide us–from your morning coffee (half-and-half, two sugars) to the $2 umbrella when you get caught in the thunderstorm.
- A fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors’ rights.
HOW ARE THE FINALISTS CHOSEN?
Simple enough. We’ll take public nominations to determine which lucky vendors will compete against each other for street food glory. People like you can suggest your favorite street food vendors though an online nomination process.
