The internet is full of fabulous facts about everything from current events to the history basket weaving. Because of this, as we research for our daily content on food trucks, food carts and street food, we stumble upon some items of knowledge that we just did not know. We have decided when these fun facts pop up, that we would share them with our readers in our section titled “Did You Know?”

For today’s Did You Know fun food facts we will look at Parfaits.

The Facts: Originally, parfait was developed during the 1800s. It tasted like coffee and was a frozen treat served in several forms because the parfaits were placed in ice cream molds. Eventually, these layered ice cream desserts were laced with fruit, syrups, or liqueurs.

  • The word parfait means perfect in French. Perfectly delicious!
  • November 25th is National Parfait Day.
  • The American version of the treat features ice cream layered with fruit or syrup that is served in a tall, thin glass. Parfaits should not be confused with ice cream sundaes. The difference: the dish.
  • A parfait can be made with pudding, mousse, or ice cream.
