Coming up with a name that’s unique and memorable is easier said than done, which is why I created this list of ideas.

However, if you prefer to put in the work and think of an original name on your own, that’s fine too. In fact, I recommend using this approach if you have the time and a little bit of creativity. If you look below, you will find my suggestions on how to name a fictional country for your TV show, story, or a CPG brand.

• Determine the type of country and the atmosphere you want to create. Think about the language, geography, climate, and cultural and political characteristics of the people living there. Think about all the things that make the residents of your country special. 
• Incorporate meaningful elements. Use names of people, gods, and objects associated with the country’s story. Many times, dictators like their realms named in honor of them. 
• Consider mixing two or more words to create a unique name. Combine a word and its reverse, or merge different terms like “Celestial” and “Nation”. You could come up with thousands of additional ideas using this process. 
• Stay away from overdone names. Avoid picking the same names, as well as references to existing countries like “New” or “Old”. These ideas have been worn out and aren’t original. 
• Avoid acronyms. Although they are quite useful in the real world, this sort of name tends to sound unnatural in fictional settings.
• Get creative with spelling. Try including silent letters or inserting numbers into the name for a more unique sound. This is another proven strategy to come up with unique name ideas. 
• Think about the meaning. Elaborate on the story’s theme and add a touch of mystery with etymology. Etymology references the origin or history of a specific word. 
• Choose an evocative name. Choose Latin or Greek terms that signify ideas like “hope” or “fortune”. This can make you sound smart and add an interesting thread of authenticity to a name. 
• Add an emotional touch. Either by including a meaningful word in the name or by topping it off with poetic adjectives. You can describe the passions of a society using this approach. For example, the people of your land could have a passion for education or helping others. 
• Keep it concise. Concise names tend to be the most powerful and memorable.
