Why is it important to regularly thank employees for contributions?

There are plenty of bottom line reasons thank employees. When employees feel valued, they are less likely to be absent from work, call in sick, or accept employment at another company. What’s amazing to me is that the recognition doesn’t need to be over the top or expensive either. In fact, the same UK-based study I mentioned earlier found positive results by offering free coffee and tea to bar for employees that included a message of gratitude from management.

Acknowledging the efforts and contributions of employees plays a crucial role in fostering a positive work culture and driving organizational success. But it can’t be a one and done event. You need to build gratitude into the culture of your organization to ensure employees feel value over the months and years they’re employed.

Anecdotally, I can also confirm that employees value this gratitude. I knew one senior leader that I worked under would regularly leave notes of gratitude in the cubicles of employees. These thank you notes would be cherished years afterward. Each employee felt like they were recognized and this made all the difference in their outlook for the day.
