I’ve only dined at Freebirds twice because the location near my home closed down a few years ago, but I really enjoyed the concept when I did. Since I don’t live in Texas, I didn’t realize it was a chain that’s extremely popular in the Lone Star State and thought it was a small independent concept. Boy was I wrong!

In this article, I share the menu prices at Freebirds World Burrito in 2024. I also organized the latest coupon codes and other deals to help you save money in your next visit. Let’s dive in!

What Burrito Sizes are Available?

Freebirds World Burrito offers four different burrito sizes:

  • Freebird: This is the regular-sized burrito. It is made with a 12-inch flour tortilla and is filled with your choice of protein, rice, beans, cheese, and toppings.
  • Half Bird: This is a smaller option, made with a 6-inch flour tortilla. It is perfect for those with a smaller appetite or who want to try a variety of different foods.
  • Monster: This is a double-sized burrito, made with two 12-inch flour tortillas and filled with twice the amount of ingredients as a Freebird. It is perfect for those who are really hungry or who want to share their burrito with a friend.
  • Bowl: This is a burrito without the tortilla. It is perfect for those who are looking for a low-carb option or who want to avoid gluten.

You can also upgrade your burrito to a “Monster Bowl” for an additional fee. This will give you a double-sized bowl with twice the amount of ingredients as a regular bowl.

Sauce and Dressing Options

One of the unique aspects of dining at Freebirds are the different sauce and salsa options.

  • Mild tomatillo sauce (green sauce)
  • Hot tomatillo sauce (red sauce)
  • Creamy jalapeno sauce
  • Sour cream
  • BBQ sauce
  • Death sauce (The hottest sauce available at Freebirds.)
  • Ancho Dressing
  • Tomatillo dressing
  • Freebirds Ranch dressing

Vegan Menu Options

I recently decided to venture into Freebirds, armed with a rumbling stomach and a mission to explore their vegan offerings.

As I stood there, eyes darting between the burrito options, I settled on a wheat tortilla. My wife decided to order the Low Carb Vegan Bowl with cauliflower rice and plant-based chorizo. Mental note: try that next time!

The “Protein” Pick: The Plant-Based Chorizo was calling my name. I mean, who can resist? But I also noticed the vegetarian option, which, surprise surprise, came with guacamole. Score!

Salsa Galore: I’m a sucker for some heat, so I bravely went for the Death Sauce. But for those who prefer to play it safe, they’ve got everything from Grilled Creamy Jalapeno Salsa to Mild Tomatillo Sauce. Naturally, I ordered a side of tortilla chips paired with guacamole. Crunchy, creamy, and oh-so-delicious! As a side note, all the salsas are vegan friendly.

Guacamole on a bowl.

Little Discoveries: My daughters ordered off the Weebirds menu (clearly, I’m a bit too “grown-up” for that). My four and six year old described the burritos as cute. My wife was happy the meal was vegan-friendly and I’m happy to report the meals filled them up.

A Few Vegan Related Notes and Observations:

  • Cookies: I did ask, and nope, they’re not vegan. Sorry!
  • Refried Beans: I double-checked, and yes, they’re vegan! In fact, all their beans are vegan. Bean-tastic!
  • Beyond Meat: I ask an employee, who informed me the Beyond Meat is no longer on the menu. But with the Plant-Based Chorizo by Abbot’s Butcher has replaced this ingredient.

Is Freebirds Only Found in Texas?

Tacos at Freebirds.

According to the Freebirds World Burrito website, locations are only found in Texas. I guess it makes sense that Freebirds publicly states on their website they hope to become the best known taco shop in Texas and announced plans to double their footprint in the state back in 2021. You can find a Freebirds in the following Texas communities:

  • Austin
  • College Station
  • San Antonio
  • Allen
  • Dallas
  • Houston
You may be surprised to learn while Freebirds has grown and thrived in Texas, the concept has roots in California. The first location is found in Santa Barbara and still independently operated. Weirdly, the concept never really took off in California outside of Santa Barbara. The first time I dined at the restaurant was Temecula, California that’s been closed down for more than 5 years already.
