FAQs About Waffle House Menu

What menu items have been discontinued at Waffle House?

Waffle House stood the test of time and managed to keep most of its original menu items up til now. In fact, Waffle House has been in business since 1955 when the first location opened in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Considering they’ve been in business nearly 7 decades, you can’t expect everything to still be on the menu.

Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit

Soft baked dough mixed with jalapeno bits and gooey cheddar. It’s a gift that keeps on giving with every bite. Who knew the utter power combo that is jalapeno and cheese could get even more powerful when turned into a biscuit? Waffle House did. And then suddenly they didn’t. Despite efforts from netizens for Waffle House to at least explain why they discontinued the beloved menu item, the reason remains a mystery.

Blueberry & Strawberry Waffles

Blueberry and strawberry flavors are quite staples when it comes to any dessert/pastry menu. For Waffle House to discontinue such classic flavors is still baffling. Although the two flavors make a comeback from time to time under their limited menu offerings during special occasions and seasons, it’s safe to say we can all agree that the two should come back and permanently stay.

$5 Menu

Considering the rising costs of food and transportation, it’s no wonder the restaurant chain had to come to an end. In short, these menu items just wouldn’t be profitable in today’s economic environment. One example of an item that was included on this $5 deal menu was the sausage egg and cheese grits bowl with hash browns and drink.

Are there any discounts you can claim at Waffle House?

Your best chance to save money at Waffle House is by joining the rewards program called the Waffle House Regulars Club where you’ll receive coupons, freebies, and discounts as soon as they’re published. If you want to save money at Waffle House this is at the way to go since you’ll be notified as soon as a new discount becomes available.

Coupons available through the Regulars Club in the past include a classic waffle with each order or an order of hash browns with up to two toppings at no charge. Of course, joining in the rewards program is free as well.

Waffle House also offers a student discount of 10% off at participating locations. Check-in at your local branch and see if you can snag up some lunch for a deal to keep you going through all these crazy academic requirements. Similarly, they offer senior discounts of 10% off depending on location.

Is it your birthday? If it is, make sure to mention this to your server as guests get a free waffle on their date of birth. You may be asked to provide proof of your birthday with a valid government ID like driver’s license.

Should you tip at Waffle House?

I can’t believe this is even a real question. But yes… It’s customary to tip at the Waffle House. In the United States, most diners anticipate spending 15% – 20% based on the price of the bill when eating at a sit-down restaurant. Of course, the amount you tip is guided by the level of service you recieve. I mean, at this point even baristas at Starbucks expect to be tipped after handing you a cup of coffee.

At Waffle House, you’ll get a higher level of service than at the typical coffee shop where you place an order at the counter and then retrieve your items when the order is complete. At Waffle House, you’ll be guided to your seat, served beverages and food. Also, keep in mind that wait staff at Waffle House rely on tips to make a living. The Waffle House often doesn’t pay employees much above minimum wage.

I do understand where this question comes from, however. Waffle House appeals to diners from all income levels. The restaurant is also know for serving affordable meals and offering discounts that attract more price concientious customers.

What are the most popular menu items at Waffle House?

All waffles from the restaurant are honestly popular items. No surprise there. However, below you’ll find out the best waffle variety to get from Waffle House, and the next best two items you can get from this American breakfast-style fast food joint.

Apple Cinnamon Waffles

Waffle House’s Apple Cinnamon Waffles has been one of the top sellers since it was first added to the menu. These breakfast starters are made with typical ingredients such as flour, eggs, butter, milk,  baking powder, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and apples. Yet, even with such common ingredients, these waffles taste like no other unless it’s from Waffle House.

Papa Joe’s Pork Chop And Eggs

If you want a protein-filled breakfast, Papa Joe’s Prok Chops from Waffle House is your dish. It includes two 5 oz pork chops, wheat toast with jelly, two scrambled eggs, and a choice of hash browns, grits, or tomatoes. You can even add smoked ham, grilled onions, or sausage gravy.

All-Star Breakfast

A breakfast-style restaurant that serves a proper breakfast deserves its calling. Waffle House made sure of this when they first served their All-Star Breakfast where you can customize it to include two or three scrambled eggs and grits, hashbrowns, tomatoes, toast or biscuits, a waffle, strips of bacon, sausage, or ham. You can also choose to add some grilled onions or sausage gravy. It is one loaded breakfast meal that fills you up after your morning jog or starts your day ready for work.

Is there a secret menu at Waffle House?

Yes, Waffle House is hiding a secret menu in their kitchen. And it is only filled with good things.

“Double Ds”

If you want a high-protein breakfast, double up with Double Ds. A pair of hashbrowns and a pair of sunny-side-up eggs will power up your morning simply because Waffle House knows one piece of each has never been enough, and three of each would be too heavy. Two is the perfect number for this perfect pair.

Pecan Waffles

There are many types of waffles from the chain that lives up to par. The Pecan waffles follow suit to complement your high-calorie needs with calcium from the pecans.

Buttermilk Waffles

Imagine softer and fluffier classic waffles thanks to buttermilk. These waffles are made with buttermilk but retain the same amount of calories that their classic waffles have.

Arnold Palmer

You’d think the name Arnold Palmer could be anything from special sausages to sweet waffles, but apparently, it’s a beverage! It is a mix of half lemonade and half unsweetened iced tea. Just the right beverage to help push all the sweet waffles down without the extra sugary sensation.

Scattered All The Way

If you don’t know already, Waffle House offers hash browns in 6 different ways.

  • Traditional
  • Scattered and smothered
  • Scattered, smothered, and covered
  • Scattered, smothered, covered, and chunked
  • Scattered smothered, covered, chunked, and topped
  • Scattered, smothered, covered, chunked, topped, and diced

What’s more is that all six of these types include onions, melted cheese, ham, and chili. Can’t go wrong with any of those!

For this secret menu item, consider it the 7th type of way hash browns can be served at Waffle House. Scattered All The Way serves your hash browns completely scattered on the grill in butter-style oil and smothered in chili.

Are there any Waffle House menu items for specialty diets?

No. Waffle House does not have any special menu that caters to specialty diets. You can however customize most of your order to include or remove any item you don’t like. For example, you can swap out their white bread for wheat bread.

On that note, below are some low-calorie items you may enjoy, sans guilt. This is the best I can offer for anyone who wants to stick to their diet goals.

  1. Egg Breakfast with 2 Eggs, Wheat Toast, and Tomatoes: 410 Calories
  2. Egg Breakfast with 3 Eggs and Tomatoes (No Toast): 220 Calories
  3. Large Bowl of Chili: 230 Calories

Who is the target audience of Waffle House’s menu?

Waffle House welcomes its customers regardless of the range of ages from children, teens, college students, and families all the way to older clientele. Gender is not a distinguishing factor in Waffle House’s demographics due to the mass appeal of its breakfast-style theme. You can say just about anyone who loves breakfast and wants it 24/7 is most welcome to dine in at any of their stores.

To sum it all up, Waffle House is out of those nationally recognized American restaurant chains that vows to offer “Good Food Fast”. Waffle House remains a popular morning destination across the South-East United States. Many locations are open 24/7 so any time a craving strikes you know where to go.

You’ll can find the largest number of locations in Georgia where 435 of the 1,971 total stores is located. This is supported by statistics that Waffle House collectively serves 145 waffles per minute. That’s a whole lot of deliciousness served every 60 seconds!
