One of the items that’s been taken off the menu is Huevos Rancheros at Black Bear Diner. This breakfast item was served with two crispy corn tortillas chopped up and topped with refried beans, chorizo, two sunny side up eggs, chile verde sauce, jack cheese, avocado, cherry tomatoes sour cream & cilantro. The meal was served with your choice of potato or fresh fruit. Sadly, you won’t be able to order this item any longer.

Are there Healthy Options on the Black Bear Diner Menu?

Black Bear Diner has a Fit & Focused menu at that’s a great option for those who are looking for a healthier breakfast option at the restaurant. Here are the four items on this menu at the time of writing. From time to time, Black Bear Diner will update these items.

Chicken Sausage Scramble (590 calories)

Start your day off right with our delicious Chicken Sausage Scramble for $16.59. Made with diced chicken sausage, egg whites, jack cheese, spinach, and sautéed mushrooms, this scramble is packed with protein and flavor. The scramble is topped with sliced avocado and diced tomato. The entree is served with fresh fruit and toast.

Avocado Toast (550 – 590 calories)

Made with a fresh avocado on whole wheat toast, two eggs, and fresh fruit, this toast is packed with nutrients and flavor for $14.19. You can swap out wheat bread for white bread if you prefer.

Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oatmeal (220 calories)

Start your day off with a bowl of our delicious Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oatmeal for $9.19. This oatmeal is made with whole grain oats that are slow-cooked and topped with brown sugar, cinnamon, Craisins, and nut medley.

Fruit Bowl (230 calories)

This bowl is made with fresh strawberries, melon, and grapes, and it’s an easy way to get your daily dose of fruit for only $7.89.

Here are some additional tips for diners who want to eat healthy at Black Bear Diner: 

• Order smaller portions. Most of the menu items are large, so you can save money and calories by ordering a smaller portion off one of the “Little Less” menu items.
• Choose healthier sides. Instead of fries or hash browns, order a side of fruit or vegetables.

What is the decor like at Black Bear Diner?

One of the most striking features of Black Bear Diner is the large, carved black bear that is prominently displayed near the entrance of each restaurant. You may be surprised to learn that each of these bears is hand-carved with a chainsaw by artist Ray Schulz, adding a touch of charm and uniqueness to the dining experience.

Over the years, Schultz, based out of Spokane, Washington, has carved hundreds of bears for the restaurant chain. Each one is a little bit different. Schultz carves new bears each year for that are donated for charity raffles for various Black Bear Diner locations.

There is no official secret menu at Black Bear Diner, but there are a few items that are not listed on the regular menu. These items are usually created by the staff on the fly, and they can vary from restaurant to restaurant.

The “Barney Special”: Two pancakes, two eggs, two bacon strips, and two sausage links.

The “Big Bear”: A breakfast burrito made with eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, and potatoes. The Black Bear Diner does offer a Chorizo Breakfast Burrito on their menu so swapping out a few of the ingredients to make the Big Bear shouldn’t be a problem.

Black Bear Diner offers a free meal to anyone who signs up for the Bear Lover’s E-Club. The club is free to join and you’ll even get a second free meal coupon for your birthday. There’s no better deal than free.

Of course, registering for this program will also get you coupons, exclusive offers and other discounts on food, drinks, and merchandise.

Another way to save money is by ordering off the Little Less Menus. These menus have smaller portions, but are worth it if you’re not that hungry. For example, the regular sized entree of the Housemade Meatloaf costs $19.09, but the same order on the Little Less menu is priced at only $12.99 or 32% less expensive.

On the Hungry Bear Breakfast menu, you could order a Big Foot Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs for $19.39 or the Bear Paw Chicken Fried Steak on the Little Less Dinners menu for only $12.99. This will save you 33% in this example, but you won’t get as much food or eggs with the order either.

One of the more creative ways to save at Black Bear Diner is to register for the Passport program. This program allows you to collect rewards for visiting each of the 156 Black Bear Diner locations across the West and Southwest. You get a different reward for each location you visit. I’ve seen discounts as high as 25% off for visiting certain locations. If you like classic diner food and travel, the Passport program would be a lot of fun to join.
