What menu items have been discontinued at Jack in the Box?

Jack in the Box has discontinued a lot of the menu items over the years, including secret and limited-time menu items. Many of these items are remembered and still missed by hardcore Jack in the Box fans.

Exploding Cheesy Chicken Sandwich

An absolute masterpiece for the cheese hall of fame. Under the Munchie Meal menu, the Exploding Cheesy Chicken Sandwich was a chicken sandwich with mozzarella cheese sticks and white cheese sauce.

Cheesy Macaroni Bites

Originally advertised as an on-the-go menu item where customers could munch on these triangular bites filled with macaroni and cheese. This was subsequently replaced with another short-lived menu item, Spicy Chicken Bites.

Bacon Shake

Milkshake and bacon become one with this Jack in the Box discontinued secret menu item. The chain used Torani bacon-flavored syrup instead of actual bacon. And whether the name was more appetizing than the actual taste, we’ll never know why Jack in the Box discontinued the beverage.

Jalapeño BBQ Burger

Such a shame that this burger was discontinued. One for the palates of spicy, savory food lovers. It consisted of crispy onion and jalapeno strips, American cheese, bacon, and jalapeño BBQ sauce.

Mac & Cheese Munchie Mash-Ups

Jack in the Box loves to incorporate mac and cheese into their menu. Sadly, not all of these ideas stand the test of time. The item was a mix of mashed hash browns and mac and cheese, topped with either chicken nuggets (a very unlikely snack topping) and ranch sauce, or stuffed jalapenos and sriracha sauce. I think it sounds pretty good even though I never had the chance to try it. 

Spicy Chicken Bites

Bite-size chicken breast pieces coated in a spicy and crunchy batter with buttermilk ranch dipping sauce. The curse continues as after replacing a discontinued item, the Spicy Chicken Bites were replaced yet again with another discontinued item, the Fried Egg Rolls.

Frings

Frings was simply fries and onion rings served in the same bag or carton. It wasn’t that special, unlike its name. If it were some kind of mashed onion rings and potatoes, it may have been more deserving of its fun name and perhaps would not have been discontinued. We may never know the answer to burning mystery. 

Apple Turnover

A perfect blend of crispy baked pie crust and perfectly seasoned apply sauce fillings. Many customers argue it was one of Jack in the Box’s more popular items and question why the chain removed it in the first place. Many still hold hope for its return.

Two Tacos

It is a perfect mix of beef, American cheese, shredded lettuce, and taco sauce that takes you back to the basics of why tacos are supreme and should be in any fast food restaurant no matter their actual theme. Jack in the Box clearly knows this. Back in my 20s, I used to eat these all the time as they were one of the cheapest meals you could find. Naturally, I dipped these in the free ranch dressing provided at each store. 

Chicken Fajita Pita

Whole grain pita bread stuffed with flame-grilled chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. It’s a great food item offering lots of protein without too much of calories. That and the taste will have you back at the counter ordering for more.

Seasoned Curly Fries

These special fries are on the list because no other item goes well with any of their mains than these. They are great as snacks on their own, as a side dish, or even as toppings to their burgers and tacos if you’re that much of a monster on the table!

Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger

They may have failed with the Bacon Shake, but their cheeseburger is truly the ultimate bacon item they have, And it’s on a burger! Imagine two juicy beef patties layered between American and Swiss cheese, real mayonnaise, real mustard, and real ketchup, with three slices of bacon. It’s a Jack in the Box menu item you absolutely can not miss to try.

Is there a secret menu at Jack in the Box?

Yes, they do. But be aware some items like the Ciabatta Cheeseburger may only be available in select locations. So be on the lookout for these food items and ask a team member if they are available. 

Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger

Once a regular menu item, and now buried in the secret menu, the Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger serves up crunchiness, crispiness, and saltiness in between two buns.

3×3 or 4×4 Burger (or even 9×9!)

A concept popularized by In-n-Out Burger can be applied when ordering at Jack in the Box too. You can order a burger with 3 patties and 3 slices of cheese. You can even order patties in 4s and even 9s if you really have the appetite for it.

Sourdough Bread Burger

Their Sourdough Jack is a popular item and it does them well to apply it to a burger. You can also simply order any of their burgers and switch out the buns for some sourdough bread instead.

Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger

A regular cheeseburger with lots of bacon bits for an added texture and of course the delicious taste of bacon.

“Loaded” Breakfast Sandwich

Their regular Grilled Breakfast Sandwich with an added slice of either turkey, sausage, or both.

They offer an affordable menu that does cater to their target market and are open late to appeal to the “stoner” crowd. 

The featured menu item at the beginning of Jack’s journey was of course the burger. However, today, their most popular item falls on the Sourdough Jack, a sandwich fully loaded with beef and bacon fillings that pushes their burgers to stand aside.
