What is the dress code at Peter Luger?

Believe it or not, there’s no official dress code at Peter Luger. This is a traditional steakhouse with casual dress requirements. Bottom line, as long as you are wearing a shirt, shoes, not wearing anything with objectionable messages and are clean, you will not have a problem being served at Peter Luger.

Does Peter Luger Accept Cash?

Yes, Peter Luger does accept cash payment at the Brooklyn and Great Neck locations. Peter Luger Steak House does not accept credit cards. They do, however, accept the Peter Luger Card, US checks with proper ID, US debit cards, and cash.

There is a slight workaround to this, however. For online orders only, credit card payments are permitted. You can have steak, sauces, and gift cards shipped to your work or home address. They’ll even ship food internationally.

What’s the Corkage Fee?

According to New York Magazine, Peter Luger does not offer this service to guests. Fortunately, Peter Luger offers an extensive collection of fine wines to choose from onsite.

Does Peter Luger have a Michelin Star?

Yes, Peter Luger Steak House in Brooklyn lost its Michelin star.

Why did this happen? The loss of the Michelin star for Peter Luger might be attributed to changing perceptions of what constitutes a fine-dining establishment in the modern era. The steakhouse, which has been described as a “cash-only joint with overpriced plates and rude waiters,” may no longer align with contemporary standards of fine dining.

Additionally, Peter Luger received a zero-star review from The New York Times three years prior, indicating that there might have been signs of declining recognition for some time. Despite the loss of the Michelin star, Peter Luger remains confident in its offerings and identity. The general manager, David Berson, emphasized the restaurant’s commitment to serving the best steak and showed gratitude to their loyal customers. Berson also made a remark contrasting their signature steak with the “latest kale salad,” highlighting the restaurant’s traditional approach to dining.

New Menu Items?

Peter Luger rarely adds new items to its menu. But in 2023, they’ve introduced a tantalizing new dish that’s got everyone talking: a steak sandwich!

David Berson, the fourth-generation operator and general manager of the restaurant, revealed the idea of a steak sandwich had been simmering in the back of their minds for years. The challenge? Crafting a sandwich that felt like it had always been a part of the timeless legendary menu. After countless trials and taste tests, they’ve perfected the recipe and are ready to release it into the public.

A traditional steakhouse experience.

The sandwich boasts a generous 8-ounce portion of USDA Prime New York strip steak, cooked to perfection. It’s then topped with caramelized onions and a zesty horseradish spread. The sandwich is served on a toasted roll that’s reminiscent of the onion bread from Luger’s complimentary bread basket.

This $38 steak sandwich is an exclusive treat, available only through word-of-mouth during lunch hours from Monday to Thursday at their Williamsburg and Long Island branches. If you’re dining at Peter Luger for lunch, it’s worth asking about no matter what location you’re at.

In addition to this delectable sandwich, Peter Luger introduced sautéed mushrooms, crab cakes, and a ribeye for two. This is another dish designed to seamlessly blend with the classic menu. So, the next time you’re at Peter Luger, lean in and whisper your order for that steak sandwich or ribeye meal for two.
