FAQs about the Steak ‘n Shake Menu
What menu items have been discontinued at Steak ‘n Shake?
Grilled Chicken Sandwich
Much to the surprise of many Steak ‘n Shake patrons, the Grilled Chicken Sandwich has been removed from the menu. This sandwich consisted of a marinated and grilled chicken breast, accompanied by lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. The process has caused a lot of confusion among customers as there has yet to be an explanation on why the menu item is no longer available.
Chicken Fingers
Steak ‘n Shake’s move to discontinue its beloved chicken fingers has not been well-received by its loyal customers. It is attempting to modernize its menu by removing certain classic items, but this has only caused dissatisfaction. The chicken fingers, which were extremely popular, have been particularly missed by a certain segment of the customer base.
Patty Melt
At one time the Patty Melt was one of the popular menu items at Steak ‘n Shake. This melt was served between two slices of rye bread with caramelized onions and melted American cheese. Unfortunately, the Patty Melt was removed from the menu after the Frisco Melt was introduced.

White Truffle Double Steakburger
The White Truffle Double Steakburger was a favorite at Steak ‘n Shake. This popular menu item features 100 percent beef patties topped with grilled mushrooms, melted Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, and a creamy truffle aioli sauce on a lightly toasted knotted bun. Sadly, this limited-time offering was only available for a short time.
Other discontinued items at Steak ‘n Shake:
- Turtle Caramel Nut Milkshake
- Reese’s Outrageous Milkshake
- Salads
- Baked beans
- Coleslaw
Are there any discounts you can claim at Steak ‘n Shake?
The simplest way to save at Steak ‘n Shake with is by joining the rewards program called the Steak ‘n Shake Rewards Club. Once you sign up either through the website or the app, you will receive a complimentary shake that can be claimed after 4 PM. In addition, you will receive a $5 reward for each $50 spent at a location. That translates to 10% savings on every order just for signing up for a rewards program. Not a bad deal if you eat here often.
Steak ‘n Shake does provide discounts for seniors too. On Mondays and Tuesdays, those 50 years of age or older are eligible for a 10% discount on their purchase. However, the company does not offer any military discounts at this time.

The “We’re All Essential” campaign from 2020.
Can you still get free fries at Steak ‘n Shake? Unfortunately, this limited time offer is no longer valid. At the beginning of the health crisis in 2020, Steak ‘n Shake began offering free fries to everyone as part of the “We’re all essential campaign.” This was an incredible offer since it didn’t even require a purchase at any of the 550 locations. All you had to do was go through a drive-thru and ask for free fries. No strings attached.
During this time period, the chain also provided 20% discounts to a broad range of healthcare workers and frontline workers from nurses to doctors to police officers to custodians and grocery store employees. Basically anyone who continued to serve during challenging times got recognized and a discount. This was a pretty cool offer and speaks volumes to the values of this restaurant.
What are the most popular menu items at Steak ‘n Shake?
Classic Steak Frank
If you’re a fan of hot dogs, give the Classic Steak Frank a try. This is a classic hot dog dressed in ketchup and mustard and served in a bun with a premium sausage in the middle. Having a Steak Frank with some cheese fries makes you feel like you’re at a baseball game with gourmet food. Get the combo and add a milkshake for a summertime inspired meal.
Frisco Melt
The renowned Frisco Melt is one of the stars at Steak ‘n Shake. It consists of a Steakburger patty with Swiss and American cheese sandwiched between two slices of sourdough bread. What sets this dish over the top for me is the signature Frisco sauce. All these ingredients then get melted together on the grill, resulting in a meal that’s just plain good.
Steak ‘n Shake’s Butter Steakburger
The Butter Steakburger (formerly known as the Wisconsin Buttery Steakburger) earned its name due to its buttery goodness. This burger consists of two Steakburger patties, an extra thick slice of American cheese, and grilled onions. The real star of the show is the salted Wisconsin butter melted over the top of the burger.

Birthday Cake Milkshake
A beloved milkshake choice is the Birthday Cake flavor, crafted to commemorate Steak ‘n Shake’s 80th birthday. The milkshake combines yellow cake, vanilla ice cream, buttercream frosting, and vibrant sprinkles. Funfetti has never been so delicious to drink.
Other popular items at Steak ‘n Shake include:
- Original Double ‘n Cheese Steakburger
- Bacon Cheese Fries
Is there a secret menu at Steak ‘n Shake?
If you’re ever at a Steak ‘n Shake, the secret menu is a must-try. Here are some tips and tricks you can use to make your next visit even better.
The 7×7 Burger
This 7×7 all-night burger is a specialty item that is only available at Steak ‘n Shake locations between midnight and 6 AM. This menu replaces the regular menu that is available during other times of the day. Steak ‘n Shake’s 7×7 burger lives up to its name, boasting seven beef patties layered with cheese and sandwiched between two buns. The meal is just as filling as you’d expect and you might want to share.

Root Beer Float
Steak ‘n Shake is famous for its milkshakes. However, if you’re looking for a different type of dessert, you can always ask for a root beer float. No matter what, this beverage is easy to make with vanilla ice cream and root beer, Steak ‘n Shake can prepare it without difficulty. This is my go-to dessert when visiting the restaurant.
Customized Milkshake
You can ask to customize any milkshake from the chain by adding mix-ins like candy and cookies and choose from a range of classic flavors as a base instead of the default vanilla. The possibilities are endless with flavor combinations like strawberry, Oreo, chocolate chips, and peppermint ready to add-in.
Are there any menu items for specialty diets?
It is easy to overlook the nutritional value of Steak ‘n Shake. While they are widely known for its premium burgers and shakes, which are not typically associated with healthy diets or weight loss, the burger chain does offer some healthy options among its deep-fried burgers. Vegans may have difficulty choosing from the menu since a majority of the options include animal or dairy products.

Who is the target audience of this Steak ‘n Shake’s menu?
Steak ‘n Shake specifically targets families as customers, rather than just young adults. This is an important point to note because it suggests that the restaurant is catering to a different demographic than it used to. In the past, the average customer at Steak ‘n Shake was typically younger than 40 years old, and the restaurant was primarily geared toward young adults.
As a business, Steak ‘n Shake has struggled to turn a profit so a change in strategy is a good idea at this point. In fact, the company has closed more than 50 locations over the past two years due to declining revenues. If you enjoy eating at this restaurant, make sure to get out there and support them.
